Our History

Established in 1972 as an independent family-owned retail store, KTC has grown into one of Europe’s leading businesses dedicated to sourcing, blending, and packing high-quality, sustainably focused food oils.

1972

From humble beginnings, KTC (Khera Trading Company) was started by the Khera family initially as a family-owned store in the West Midlands. They wanted to provide their friend’s rapidly growing restaurants and curry houses with a variety of good quality, accessibly priced cooking oils, essential ingredients in creating good Indian food.

The business flourished, as did their expertise and knowledge in the use of oils across a wide range of cuisines and food creations like pastries, confectionery and finishing oils for vegetables.

1999

As a result of their success, the KTC family set their sights on a bigger enterprise moving into a purpose-built 240,000 square ft facility in Wednesbury, the heart of England, where the business still resides today. The site now employs over 200 colleagues.

2007

KTC expanded for the first time outside of the Midlands, with a new site in Liverpool by the docks to service the huge increase in demand for oil sold in bulk. KTC rapidly outgrew this site too and had to find a new 165,000 square ft facility within 5 years.

2019

KTC acquired the Piquant business in 2019, the specialist manufacturer of dips, dressing and sauces. Piquant, since 1986, has supplied products to hundreds of food service, catering and wholesale customers.

2022

Endless portfolio company acquired KTC recognising the growth potential of the business. Additional capital was injected to support ambitious growth plans as well as strengthening operations, range and service delivery.

2023

An exciting year for KTC with firstly the acquisition of Cardowan Creameries Ltd, a specialist in plant-based margarine, bread fats and shortening with a strong commitment to sustainability. Cardowan Creameries supplies over 20,000 metric tonnes annually to manufacturers and wholesalers across the UK and globally.

Later that year, Cardowan was followed by a second acquisition of Trilby Trading, one of Ireland’s leading importers and distributors of vegetable oils and fats. Trilby supplies in excess of 75,000 tonnes of oil each year to customers in Ireland, UK and Holland.
